C.J. Leak forces Tennessee to adjust
Office aid C.J. Leak, a former Tennessee QB, might help the Gators decipher UT’s system on Saturday. The Vols’ coach pushed aside a pitcher of gravy to address Leak’s presence in Gainesville.
> Phil Fulmer: “C.J., I’m sure knows a lot about our offense, our signals and how we go about doing things. There are a lot of ways of doing that. You can put indicators in there with signals. You can have two or three guys who can signal. It really can be a distraction if you’re not careful. I’m sure he has every note taken, but it gets back to the players on the field and getting it done.
> Fulmer: “You have to be aware of it, but it’s not something you worry about. We have made adjustments throughout camp. We have been using this offense for a long time in the league.”
> A joking Meyer: “Is that the reason he’s here? Sure. (rimshot) No, the reason he’s here is he’s a high character, high quality person and I kind of like those guys in the coaching profession. The profession needs people like that.”
> Meyer: “We’re asking about personnel and he’s helped us. There is video equipment, too, that shows how good they are. Schematically, there isn’t a whole lot he can share with us. The biggest thing is with personnel.”
> Meyer: “Coaches do get very nervous. I was on the sideline getting after a coordinator signaling plays in and he said, ‘I’m signaling (plays written down on the quarterback’s) wrist band. Now days, stealing signals, I’m not sure it’s a major part of the college game with wrist bands. It used to be a major deal. We used to have (graduate assistants) sit there with binoculars and they would say, ‘I think I got it.’ The idiots never got it.”
